Surfing Dog Ricochet

December 9th, 2009 by Chet

Here’s a great story of a golden retriever puppy who was born and raised with the intention of him becoming a service dog.  Eventually his trainers realized this just wasn’t going to happen even though he had a remarkable ability to be trained and learn new things.

Kudos to his trainers for realizing what they had in mind wasn’t what he was destined to do.  Now he’s able to help many with his work!

It’s good to see a trainer who is in tune with the dog and works with the dog in a positive and loving way.

With a great results for both.

Great video. It makes me jealous to see how the dog can swim freely. In Spain it is forbidden to let your dog offleash, walk on the beach. There are NO dog parks. They are not allowed in taxis, buses, trains and/or airplanes.
In Holland, where I come from they are allowed!
I have heard that Spain is considered as the first step to hell for dogs.
What to do to change things?

My husband and I rescue and raise Labs. Weve seen first hand what happens to a dog who is being trained to do “a certain thing” and they dont have the interest. Thank you God for trainers like that who used his true abilities. Keep up the good work Cindi from Colorado

What a beautiful story with such a strong message. It was very emotional to watch. The trainer was open minded enough to realize this dog had special talents. Watching this dog surfing with and without this young man was amazing. The first thing that came to mind is being in a job you hate instead of going with your passion. Thankyou for sharing this wonderful, thoughtful and emotional video!

    OUTSTANDING–Trainer, dog and young man!
    EXCELLENT–Message!
Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push – a smile, a word of optimism, discipline and hope. All of this was expressed in this extraordinary video.

What a great video!!! I work at a Rehab Center in Nashville and have a disabled Grandson in a wheelchair. He is 3 1/2 right now but would love to have more information about how to train and get a dog for him. Do you know any contacts?
